Job description

Website Manager for The San Francisco Peninsula Travel + Tourism Board

Reports to the Director of Marketing

The Website Manager will own and optimize our digital property. This role focuses on making our website work harder, ensuring clean architecture, improving the user experience with compelling, optimized content, and using data to drive continuous improvements. This position is the technical expert who keeps our CMS running smoothly while identifying opportunities to enhance performance.

Essential Functions

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following (responsibilities are subject to review and change as needed):

Content Management + Strategy
  • Manage our content management system as the primary administrator, maintaining site architecture, taxonomy, and content organization.
  • Build and optimize campaign-specific landing pages for major initiatives and seasonal promotions, ensuring web presence aligns with multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Conduct regular site audits to ensure all links, forms, and content function properly across devices and browsers.
  • Manage + update event calendar listings and deployment on appropriate pages.
  • Ensure that all copy is well written, clearly articulating the value proposition in an in-destination voice, and with general attention to creative quality.
Technical Maintenance + Performance
  • Optimize website performance by monitoring analytics, identifying friction points, and implementing improvements. You'll translate data into actionable changes that enhance user experience and drive business results.
  • Test new features and updates before deployment, maintaining a testing protocol for partner-facing tools and booking integrations.
  • Serve as the point person for urgent website updates, maintaining protocols for quick content pivots.
  • Maintain and improve site functionality through basic HTML/CSS updates, troubleshooting technical issues, and coordinating with developers when needed. You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable working with code.
  • Maintain website security protocols, including SSL certificates, plugin updates, and vulnerability monitoring to protect visitor data and partner information.
  • Serve as the main owner when new integrations take place and oversee a smooth onboarding experience for new additions to the website (AI or other).
SEO + Analytics
  • Establish and maintain taxonomy and metadata standards to keep our content organized and findable. You'll create systems that help us scale our content efficiently.
  • Monitor website analytics to spot trends, identify problems, and uncover opportunities. You'll be the person who notices when something breaks or when user behavior shifts.
  • Partner with Social and Communications on identifying content needs to ensure optimal SEO.
  • Monitor competitor DMO websites and emerging digital trends in destination marketing, recommending new features or functionality based on industry best practices.
User Experience + Design
  • You'll ensure our website structure makes sense for both users and search engines.
  • Ensure website accessibility and performance standards are met, keeping load times fast and the site usable for all visitors.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for internal team members on CMS processes and provide guidance to partners on updating their listings and maximizing their web presence.
Partner Integration + Coordination
  • Work closely with our external partners (brand, CMS, AI, calendar, UCG, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and optimization of all existing and third-party applications.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of proven experience managing enterprise CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal, AEM, or similar). You've been the person responsible for keeping a complex website running. SimpleView CMS experience is a definite plus.
  • Strong understanding of website architecture, information architecture, and taxonomy principles. You know how to organize content so people can find what they need.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and how websites function. You can read code, make basic updates, and communicate effectively with developers.
  • Expertise in Google Analytics 4 and similar platforms. You know which metrics matter, how to use data to drive decisions, and how to create reports that inform Marketing strategy.
  • Basic familiarity with JavaScript and modern web frameworks is a plus.
  • Understanding of SEO fundamentals and how technical site structure impacts search performance.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills. Nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and work independently. You see what needs doing and you do it.
  • You know how to translate technical issues into clear requests and communicate IT updates to non-technical team members.
  • Understanding of common business technology needs, including hardware lifecycles, software licensing, and basic network infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to train and support both internal team members and external partners on website functionality.
  • If new to the industry, familiarity with the San Francisco Peninsula and region is a plus. Immersion in the region to better understand the value will be a key attribute to our success.
  • Cross-functional collaboration is key to success in this role.
