Job Description:
Position Summary
The toll booth operator is responsible for operating a toll booth efficiently and politely, ensuring a positive service experience for customers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect cash or tickets according to established rates for all traffic crossing a State Toll Facility.
- Operate a push-button classification panel; inform the public of toll rates and make proper change.
- Provide directions and information regarding travel routes and road conditions.
- Manage a personal change fund responsibly.
- Report counterfeit money, expired or stolen ticket books, explosives, defective toll equipment, vehicles with gas bottles, and other restricted vehicles to authorities.
- Account for daily receipts by preparing cash and ticket reports; perform related duties.
- Maintain accountability for each transaction, equipment, supplies, and funds collected during the shift.
- Prepare clear and concise reports of daily work activities.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements to avoid legal challenges.

- Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, as updated.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Flexible working hours and willingness to work extensively to meet business needs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Typing speed of 20 WPM preferred.
- Ability to communicate safety instructions clearly.
- Focus on safety, especially when using tools, operating equipment, or driving.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in handling money and making change; vocational training in accounting, banking, or cashiering can substitute.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Work Conditions/Physical Demands
- Availability to work 40 hours per week, including any shift.
- Strong safety awareness and perceptive abilities are required.
- Ability to recognize hazards and adjust to prevent loss or injury.
- Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
