The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Library invites applications for the position of Web Services Librarian. This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment starting at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice with a full-time, 12-month contract.

UTC Library seeks candidates who can design and maintain front-end interfaces for library websites and platforms, enhance usability through analytics, and collaborate with faculty and students to support teaching, learning, and research.

Formación

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
• Minimal six months of experience with source-code editors and CMS (Drupal 11, WordPress).
• Minimal six months of experience with HTML and CSS.

Description

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Library invitesapplications for the position of Web Services Librarian. This is anon-tenure-track faculty appointment starting at the rank ofAssistant Professor of Practice with a full-time, 12-monthcontract. UTC Library welcomes candidates new to the profession andexperienced candidates to apply.

Qualifications

Reporting to the Dean of the Library and supervised by the Directorof Library Information Technology, the Web Services Librarianbuilds, maintains, and enhances the front-end for library systemsand technologies.

Specific Duties

Librarianship – Area of Focus (100%)

Specific Position Responsibilities

• Iteratively design, develop, and maintain front-end interfacesfor library websites, applications, and platforms (e.g. Drupal,LibApps, Primo);
• Assess and improve user experience and student success viaanalytics and usability testing;
• Create and maintain appropriate documentation;
• Gather and evaluate relevant statistics;
• Coordinate and support library staff members in the developmentand maintenance of web content;
• Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary design, codingand accessibility standards;
• Participate in the acquisition, development, and support of webservices and applications that facilitate teaching, learning, and research;
• Partner with faculty, staff, and students as a technologydeveloper, designer, leader, and facilitator of library front-endsystems and projects;
• Serve as backup to other members of the library’s InformationTechnology Services Team.

Responsibilities as a Library faculty member

• Develop annual objectives and make progress towards completion(Bylaws 4.3- Meets Expectations);
• Participate in formal or informal professional developmentactivities to maintain or increase professional competence (Bylaws4.2);
• Implement evidence-based decision-making practices and followbest practices for Library unit or service (Bylaws 4.2);
• Provide respectful, professional assistance in interactionswith UTC students, staff, faculty, researchers, and the public(Bylaws 4.2);
• Demonstrate the ability to relate appropriately to students andprofessional colleagues (Bylaws 3.2);
• Support university goals and mission throughout work in yourarea of focus (Bylaws 4.2);
• Participate in Library public service, outreach, datacollection, and assessment activities when applicable (Bylaws4.2).

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree from a program accredited by the AmericanLibrary Association or equivalent international degree, otherrelevant terminal degree, or substantial professionalexperience;
• Minimal six months of experience with common source-codeeditors (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio) and content managementsystems (e.g. Drupal 11, WordPress);
• Minimal six months of experience with both HTML and CSS.

Preferred

• Demonstrated knowledge of practices, standards, and toolsrelating to security, usability, accessibility, browsercompatibility, and information architecture;
• Strong interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to workcooperatively and maintain effective working relationships withcolleagues, faculty, staff, and students;
• Experience engaging and serving diverse user populations andinformation environments;
• Experience with team processes and tools for applicationdevelopment (e.g. Git, Agile);
• Experience with scripting and template languages (e.JavaScript, PHP, Twig);
• Familiarity with a web application framework (e.g. Bootstrap,jQuery);
• Familiarity with library technologies/frameworks (e.g. LibApps,OpenURL resolvers, web-scale discovery).
