Salary : Non-Exempt, $31.25-$36.06 ($65k-$75k) DOE
Summary of Overall Job :
Governing provides the news and analysis that matter most to state and local public officials across the country. That includes everything from public finance and infrastructure to health, public safety and urban innovation. We want you to help make our coverage even stronger. The Governing Web producer is responsible for managing and overseeing the digital products and platforms for Governing, including the web, newsletters and social media, with the objective of increasing and improving our web traffic, reach and reader engagement.
The Web Producer will help produce aggregated and original news items for Governing.com. This involves assisting the Web Editor on story production, copy-editing and social media posts, as well as writing original news stories. The Governing Web Prodcer is charged with optimizing the performance of all Governing content, including Web-first stories, magazine content, contributed material and wire stories.
Overall Responsibilities :
Write and produce daily and weekly newsletters.Produce topic-related newsletters, including Finance and Politics.Maintain and manage Governing homepage.Convert the quarterly print magazine into digital formHelp produce multimedia content, including podcasts and videosEngage and collaborate with our digital and tech marketing teams to develop best practices that will expand the reach of editorial content.Manage social media platforms; develop campaigns to increase social media engagement.Develop and write data-driven articles.Track web traffic and performance stats on a weekly and monthly basis.Scan dozens of websites each morning and select stories each day to aggregate, writing new headlines as appropriate.Occasionally and as time allows, report and write articles for Governing.comPerform various editorial-related duties for the Governing Editor and Web Editor.Skills / Qualifications :
A demonstrated strong news sense.Ability to write concise, accurate and clickable headlinesStrong copyediting skillsProficient in basic HTML and AP styleExperience with content management systems (BrightSpot preferred)The focus of this job is web production but there will be writing opportunities. The ability to report and write clear, concise and accurate articles is a plusAbility to work quickly and efficiently under daily deadlinesAbility to juggle short- and long-term deadlinesKnowledge of and experience with social media in the context of news outletsExperience covering state and / or local government is a plusExperience with tools such as Photoshop and Quorum is a plusAvailable to start work around 9 a.m. local time every day.Available on rare occasions to work flexible, irregular hours to meet needs of web publishing deadlines.Must be in a work environment with reliable Internet access. This is a remote job.
