Job description

The Web Operations Producer is responsible for the technical production, operational integrity, and ongoing health of the Whitney’s website and related digital platforms, including calendar, ticketing, and digital signage workflows. As Digital Content evolves toward a more editorial and narrative-driven function, this role serves as the systems and publishing backbone of whitney.org, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, performance, and reliability across the Museum’s most visible and mission-critical digital surfaces.

This role translates editorial priorities and institutional requirements into well-structured, accurate, and user-centered digital experiences, and serves as the primary liaison between Digital Content and Digital Development, and to external web vendors.

Core Responsibilities
Website Production & Publishing Operations
  • Own day-to-day production, upkeep, and quality control of whitney.org, ensuring accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and performance.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal stakeholders submitting web updates for exhibitions, programs, ticketing-related content, and institutional information.
  • Gather, organize, proof, and publish digital assets and content via the Museum's CMS, implementing templates and visual standards set by the Creative team.
  • Copyedit web content to ensure adherence to the web style guide, maintained by the Senior Manager, Digital Editorial & Web Content, and institutional standards.
  • Lead publishing QA as the final technical check before content goes live, including image credits and rights status in coordination with Digital Imaging and Licensing Managers.
Calendar, Ticketing & Visitor Information Management
  • Own web workflows related to the Museum’s public calendar, ticketing information, hours, pricing, and visitor-facing logistics.
  • Safeguard accuracy across high-impact visitor information, particularly during periods of operational change.
Digital Signage & Onsite Platforms
  • Plan, publish, and maintain content for the Museum’s digital signage systems.
  • Ensure alignment between onsite digital signage and web-based information.
Web Operations, Governance & Workflow
  • Own web project boards, production timelines, and intake workflows in the Museum’s project management system (Asana).
  • In partnership with the Senior Manager, establish and uphold best practices for web publishing, governance, content accessibility, and usability.
  • Develop documentation and lead training for staff across departments who contribute content to whitney.org. Publish and maintain Spanish-language web content in coordination with translation colleagues in Education.
Development & Vendor Liaison
  • Serve as liaison between Digital Content and internal development, IT, and product teams, as well as external web vendors.
  • Translate editorial and institutional needs into clear technical requirements, tickets, and release plans.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities related to site performance and stability.
  • Own SEO (search engine optimization) implementation and ongoing site health, including metadata, URL structures, redirects, indexing, accessibility, and performance.
  • Implement SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization) priorities set by the Director, Digital Content, and the Senior Manager, Digital Editorial & Web Content.
  • Coordinate with development partners to resolve SEO issues and prevent regressions during site updates. Implement structured data and page-level metadata that support discoverability in traditional search and AI answer engines.
Analytics & Reporting
  • Maintain web analytics configuration and dashboards in partnership with Digital Development.
  • Produce regular reports on web performance and site health.
  • Surface insights to the Senior Manager to inform editorial planning.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience 2–4+ years of experience in web production, digital publishing, or CMS-based content management
  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex web workflows and high-traffic public platforms
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, SEO/AEO best practices, and site performance considerations
  • Working knowledge of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and content accessibility practices, including alt text, heading structure, and captions
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or comparable analytics platforms
  • Familiarity with structured data and schema markup
  • Experience training non-technical staff on CMS and publishing standards
  • Experience coordinating with developers, IT teams, and external vendors
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Asana
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with sound judgment and calm execution
  • Interest in modern and contemporary American art and cultural institutions
