Job summary

Gerber Life Insurance Company in White Plains, NY seeks a hands-on Web Engineer to modernize digital sales and servicing technology at scale. Qualifications

  • Significant agile web engineering and software change-management experience.
  • Experience providing technical leadership within a web engineering environment.
  • Experience with life insurance DTC and agency digital distribution.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks, including Scrum, LeSS, Lean, XP, Kanban, FDD and BDD.
  • Experience with API and UI test automation and tools such as Cucumber and JIRA.
  • Ability to simplify complex, large-scale technology needs while considering total cost of ownership.
  • Strong agile mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous integration.
  • Ability to work autonomously while building strong relationships across technical and business teams.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, or an acceptable combination of education, technical training, certifications and extensive relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive hands-on web development supporting digital life insurance sales and servicing
  • Execute e-commerce roadmaps across DTC and agency distribution channels
  • Modernize legacy applications supporting both internal Contact Center associates and customer self-service
  • Collaborate with engineers to rapidly deliver incremental web enhancements
  • Manage product and sprint backlogs to keep development moving forward
  • Help accelerate delivery through effective use of people, processes and technology
  • Estimate and prioritize new software development work
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to engineering team members
  • Contribute to recruiting, coaching and developing engineering talent
  • Champion agile development, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Ensure adherence to data security, regulatory and technology standards

What You’ll Do: A Day in the Life of a Web Engineer

This is a hands‑on individual contributor role for an experienced web engineer who can combine deep technical expertise with strong technical leadership. You’ll collaborate with a team of 5–7 engineers using rapid agile development to advance Gerber Life’s digital sales and servicing capabilities across direct‑to‑consumer (DTC) and agency distribution channels. The technology supports significant scale—including approximately 1.5 million captured leads and 750,000 submitted insurance applications annually, along with digital servicing capabilities supporting approximately 2.5 million unique policyholders.
