Job summary

The Web Developer at Salk Institute will own web development tasks across WordPress-driven sites and custom PHP/MySQL applications. You will collaborate with designers, stakeholders, and IT to deliver accessible, responsive digital experiences that align with branding and security standards.

The role requires 4+ years of professional web development, strong WordPress expertise, and proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, and REST APIs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four years of professional web development experience.
• Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and PHP with REST APIs.
• Strong WordPress development experience and architecture understanding.
• Experience developing and maintaining custom PHP/MySQL CMS.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and usability best practices.
• Adobe Photoshop proficiency and multimedia integration.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for day-to-day website and web application needs with strategic guidance from the Digital Communications Manager.
• Build, test, and maintain responsive, cross-browser websites and apps.
• Update content using WordPress and custom PHP/MySQL apps.
• Create specialty tools like email signatures, asset databases, and event registrations.
• Ensure ADA compliance across web properties and assist with analytics.
