Job summary

The Salk Institute for Biological Studies seeks an in-office Web Developer to build and maintain websites and web-based applications. You will work with graphic designers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver accessible, responsive experiences.

You will manage WordPress content, develop PHP/MySQL solutions, ensure ADA compliance, and support security updates while aligning with branding. This role reports to the Digital Communications Manager and emphasizes collaboration and usability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of four years of professional web development experience.
• Strong WordPress development experience and ability to build, troubleshoot, and maintain complex websites.
• Experience developing and maintaining custom PHP/MySQL CMSs.
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards, usability, and best practices.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and multimedia integration.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for day-to-day website and web application needs with oversight from the Digital Communications Manager.
• Update content using WordPress and custom PHP/MySQL apps.
• Create specialty tools such as email signature generators and event registration systems.
• Ensure ADA compliance and accessibility across web properties.
• Support internal communications by managing multimedia content.
• Collaborate with branding and internal teams to align content with standards.
• Conduct usability testing and analyze site analytics to improve performance.
• Troubleshoot web-related issues, including server-side problems.
