Position: Web Developer (Temporary Part-Time)

Scope of Position
The Greater Akron Chamber is seeking a detail-oriented, creative and driven individual for a temporary support role as the Web Developer. This role will be responsible for maintaining and updating the design and information included in the organization’s websites. This role will focus on design elements, coding the site’s navigation, distribution of content to designated audiences, website analytics, some graphic design, and ensuring a positive user experience.This role will be part-time, for a period of twelve weeks for up to 25 hours per week.
Essential Functions
Web Design & User Experience
- Manage multiple websites representing various business entities and initiatives within the organization
- Create visually compelling, user-centered web layouts that align with organizational goals, brand standards, and accessibility best practices.
- Ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and user experience across all organizational websites.
- Develop and maintain web standards, templates, and design systems to support scalability across multiple entities.
- Stay current on web design trends, tools, and technologies relevant to nonprofit and business-support organizations.
Website Maintenance & Optimization
- Manage website content updates, including page creation, edits, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure websites are responsive, ADA-compliant, and optimized for performance, SEO, and usability.
Analytics & Performance
- Monitor website analytics and key performance metrics across all organizational websites.
- Analyze user behavior and site performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Use data-driven insights to recommend and implement enhancements that support engagement, accessibility, and organizational goals.
Additional Duties as Assigned
- Have the flexibility to assist in various capacities to advance the organization’s efforts to raise awareness, visibility and engagement in the Chamber’s work.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, liberal arts or related field preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in front-end web development, web design, digital marketing, or related experience. Strong understanding of responsive website design.
- Technical Stack: Expert knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3. Proficiency in WordPress management is required.
- Maintenance Skills: Demonstrated experience in managing web security, including performing regular updates to modules, plugins, and core CMS components.
- Web Fundamentals: Familiarity with UX design principles, wireframing and information architecture mapping, strong understanding of SEO best practices, and web accessibility standards and tools like screen readers, color contrast monitors and accessibility evaluation tools.
- Soft Skills: Self-starter mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Ability to take initiative, think innovatively and be creative. High sense of urgency.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) experience is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of digital marketing including, but not limited to SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, and web analytics.
- Design Tools: Experience working within design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to translate designs into functional code.
Other Considerations
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Occasionally moves office materials and/or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds throughout the office.
Scheduling Requirements
- Must be available during standard business hours.
- While this position is based in the GAC’s main office location in Akron, OH, many aspects of this role may be fulfilled through periodic telecommuting as determined appropriate and in conjunction with project supervision.
