Job summary

Factory is seeking a hands‑on Web Designer who can own the website from concept to production. You’ll shape visual direction, layouts, interactions, and motion to reveal what autonomous software engineering makes possible.

You’ll work closely with Design, Marketing, and Engineering to ship frequent updates, optimize navigation, and deliver fast, accessible experiences in a browser. In‑office SF role, five days a week.

Qualifications

• Production websites with live portfolio showing strong visual craft and hands-on implementation.
• Excellent typography, layout, composition, and interaction design to give a site a distinct identity.
• Proficiency in Figma and a workflow between design, prototyping, and code.
• Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; experience with React or Next.js.
• Experience with web animation, timing, and easing for engaging UX.
• Understanding of responsive design, accessibility, browser behavior, and performance.
• Ability to take an open-ended brief and drive it through implementation with rapid updates.
• Experience using AI tools to prototype and build; familiarity with creative coding tools.
• Bonus: GSAP, Motion, or Rive experience and prepared motion/interaction demos.

Responsibilities

• Own Factory's website end to end: concept, design, prototyping, frontend development, testing, launch, and ongoing iteration.
• Design and build product pages, campaign landing pages, launch experiences, and other site additions.
• Create motion, animation, and interactions, including transitions, scroll-driven storytelling, hover states, and interactive demos.
• Evolve the site's visual language and reusable components for rapid page delivery while preserving craft.
• Partner with Marketing and Product to translate tech capabilities into clear, explorable stories.
• Ship frequent content updates and design improvements with attention to existing site quality.
• Ensure experiences are responsive, accessible, and fast across devices and browsers.
• Leverage analytics and user feedback to improve navigation, engagement, and conversion.

About the Role

Factory is looking for a web designer who loves to build. You'll own the design and development of Factory's website, from the first concept to production code and the updates that follow. That includes its visual direction, page layouts, interactions, motion, and animation. You'll shape how people first encounter Factory and help them understand what autonomous software engineering makes possible.

This is a hands-on role for someone who cares how a website feels in the browser. The rhythm of a page. The timing of a transition. An interactive demo that makes a complex idea click. You'll have room to explore those details and the responsibility to ship them.

Working closely with Design, Marketing, and Engineering, you'll keep the site moving as quickly as the product, with frequent launches, experiments, and improvements.

What you will do and achieve

• Own Factory's website end to end: concept, design, prototyping, frontend development, testing, launch, and ongoing iteration.

• Design and build product pages, campaign landing pages, launch experiences, and other additions to the site.

• Create and implement motion, animation, and interactions, including page transitions, scroll-driven storytelling, hover states, and interactive product demonstrations.

• Evolve the site's visual language and reusable components so new pages ship quickly without losing their character or craft.

• Partner with Marketing and Product to turn technical capabilities into clear stories that people can explore and understand.

• Ship frequent content updates and design improvements. Take care of the existing site with the same attention you bring to a new launch.

• Make every experience responsive, accessible, and fast. Own the details across screen sizes and browsers, including reduced-motion behavior.

• Use analytics, user feedback, and experimentation to improve navigation, engagement, and conversion.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and building production websites, with a portfolio of live work that demonstrates strong visual craft and hands‑on implementation.

• Excellent typography, layout, composition, and interaction design skills. You can give a site a distinct identity and carry it through to the smallest details.

• Proficiency in Figma and a comfortable workflow between design, prototyping, and code.

• Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills, with experience shipping in a modern frontend framework such as React or Next.js.

• Experience implementing web animation and motion. You have a feel for timing and easing, and know when restraint makes an experience better.

• An understanding of responsive design, accessibility, browser behavior, and web performance.

• The ability to take an open-ended brief, propose a direction, and carry it through implementation. You're comfortable balancing ambitious work with quick, frequent updates.

• Experience using AI tools to prototype and build, with the judgment to review and refine what they produce.

• Bonus: experience with creative coding, WebGL, 3D, or animation tools such as GSAP, Motion, or Rive.

• Please include links to websites you've shipped and a short note on what you personally designed and built. We'd love to see motion and interaction work in the browser.

This is an in-office position (5 days/week) in San Francisco (walking distance to Caltrain)
