Job summary

Community Action Lehigh Valley seeks a Weatherization Installer to perform on-site retrofit work in residential settings, indoors and outdoors, including attics and crawl spaces. You will install energy-saving measures, follow safety protocols, and communicate with homeowners throughout the process.

The role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 2–3 years in construction, weatherization, or energy efficiency, with experience serving diverse communities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred; however, we welcome candidates with relevant work experience or other alternative learning pathways i.e., GED equivalence.
  • Two to three years in the construction, weatherization, or energy efficiency industries required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and understanding the unique needs of different cultural backgrounds or households.

Responsibilities

  • Install energy-saving measures in residential buildings and weatherization materials.
  • Install health and safety measures and ensure installations meet safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure weatherization work is completed efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing to identify energy inefficiencies and evaluate effectiveness of measures.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate with homeowners throughout the retrofit process.
  • Work with program staff to identify areas for improvement in the weatherization process.
  • Help the community and the environment by making a difference in customers' households.
  • Keep track of materials and time spent on each job.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers and program staff.
  • Handle other paperwork as necessary and assigned.

Join Our Communty Action Team

As a Weatherization Installer, you will work onsite in residential buildings, both indoors and outdoors. Weatherization Installer work in the living spaces, attics, and/or crawl spaces of a home. The work may involve heavy lifting, bending, and climbing to access these areas with tools and equipment. You may work in homes that are not temperature control and could encounter environmental hazards such as lead-based paint, asbestos-containing materials, or mold. The work scope may be performed in all types of weather and home environments. Residents will be living in the home and ongoing communication is essential, along with safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both yourself and the homeowner.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE DAY-TO-DAY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE:
  • Install energy-saving measures in residential buildings, such as insulation and weatherization materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS INCLUDE BOTH OFFICE AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS: Both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Working in customers' homes with a broad range of diverse types of households.

Site: 1337 East Fifth Street, Bethlehem PA 18015

Hours: 40 hours per week; Flexible scheduling

Other: Some overnight travel for training/Some off-site work

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, bend, and lift materials. Comfortable working on ladders/in confined spaces.

What You Need To Be Successful
Required Education & Experience

Training And Certification Requirements
  • On-the-Job Training provided in building science, weatherization techniques, and safety procedures.
  • No prior certification required. Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification, the Pennsylvania Clean Energy Center's Crew Chief certification, OSHA10 and EPA Lead RRP certifications are preferred though free training is available.
