Job summary

Dallas-County is seeking a Building Inspector/Weatherization Assistant to perform inspections on new and existing residential structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and zoning ordinances. The role includes reporting discrepancies, issuing stop orders for serious violations, and conducting final inspections.

Education required is an Associate Degree with at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in industrial arts, business, or related field.
• One year of work related experience required.
• Knowledge of standard software applications.

Responsibilities

• Inspects units for air conditioning, heating, plumbing, insulation, ventilation, safety, structural or other components to ensure conformance to code and zoning ordinances.
• Records and reports discrepancies or code violations; notifies owners, contractors and/or construction workers; issues stop orders for serious violations; conducts final inspections to ensure compliance.
• Completes required paperwork and maintains records.
• Installs devices and equipment and maintains inventory.
• Receives and investigates complaints regarding code violations and zoning ordinances; answers general inquiries, and provides information or referrals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
