Summary
Energy Auditors are responsible for conducting comprehensive and precise residential home energy assessments in accordance with agency, utility, and government standards. They educate clients on how to make their homes safer and more energy efficient and answer direct phone calls. An Energy Auditor in Training will complete required BPI certifications and agency trainings, all paid for by SHORE UP, Inc. The trainee must remain employed for one year after each certification. The role also supports other grant‑funded programs by maintaining files, contacting vendors for bids, and attending community outreach events. This position is essential to the weatherization department’s ability to meet deadlines and grant‑contract goals.
Duties
- Conduct combustion safety testing and infrared scanning to evaluate existing conditions and recommend energy efficiency improvements.
- Complete detailed and accurate data collection and measurements, entering data into Hancock Energy Software and other databases.
- Interact with homeowners, tenants, and contractors regarding energy efficiency, and prepare detailed work orders for each audit.
- Promote and encourage adoption of energy‑saving measures recommended in the home energy assessment.
- Assist with administrative work for supplemental grants.
- Obtain estimates.
- Maintain files on premises.
- Attend community outreach events.
- Comply with Shore UP, Inc. policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrate comfort working with diverse and low‑income clientele.
- Able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to exert physical effort in light to moderate work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; can stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and maintain balance.
- Maintain integrity of confidential employment, client, and business information.
- Accurately record and enter information into state program software (Hancock) and meet deadlines, protecting restricted data.
- Maintain completely organized and accurate files in compliance with federal, state, and agency guidelines.
- Attend required training.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Weatherization Assistance Program.
- Clean driving record.
- Experience with estimates and working with outside vendors.
Language Skills
- Required: Excellent ability to speak and write in English to communicate assessment findings.
- Preferred (but not required): Ability to speak and write in Spanish and/or other non‑English languages.

Computer Skills
Required: Computing skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, database entry, and report generation.
Abilities & Skills
- Knowledge of residential property construction and inspection methods related to weatherization and energy conservation, including estimating work.
- Ability to obtain and analyze statistical data, evaluate and interpret results.
- Prepare and supervise required records and reports to keep federal, state, and local agencies informed of weatherization progress and issues.
- Coordinate contractor activities and provide technical assistance and oversight.
- Perform mathematical computations, communicate effectively in oral and written formats, and use common office IT equipment as necessary.
- Treat diverse clients and contractors equitably and tactfully.
- Attend and complete educational programs to achieve necessary certifications.
Experience
- Preferred: Experience in weatherization or general construction trades, a certificate of completion from a trade or degree completion from a university or vocational technical institute in a related field.
- Must have a valid Maryland Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
