Job summary

Walt Disney Imagineering invites qualified students to join the Ride Control Engineering Internship in Glendale, CA, for Jan 2027 to Jun 2027. Interns will contribute to ride control system development, prototyping, simulation, and testing under a mentor within the Ride Engineering Studio.

The role emphasizes electrical/electronic design, CAD documentation, and hands-on experience with programmable controllers.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have unrestricted work authorization.
  • Be available for the duration of the internship and able to work in Glendale, CA.
  • Must be able to provide own housing in Glendale, CA if required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in ride control system development, prototyping, simulation or testing for a specific attraction or project.
  • Assist in designing, modeling and analyzing electrical, electronic and data communication systems.
  • Collaborate with a mentor within the Ride Engineering Studio on a development or project team.

The approximate date of this internship is January 2027 to June 2027 and will be located in Glendale, CA.

Ride Control Engineers build the most advanced systems that create magical and immersive attractions around the world. These attractions are as exciting for grown adults as they are for kids. We work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment to develop unique control systems for Disney’s wide array of exciting rides – from an initial idea to creation to opening a new attraction.

What You Will Do

Ride Control Engineering Interns work within the Ride Engineering Studio, which designs and develops rides that provide memorable moving experiences to Disney’s Guests worldwide. The Studio is comprised of Controls and Mechanical departments that work together to accomplish that goal. You will have the opportunity to…

  • Be part of an engineering team involved in ride control system development, prototyping, simulation, or testing for a specific attraction or development project
  • Design, model, and/or analyze electrical, electronic, and data communication systems
  • Join a project or development team, partnered with a leader who will be your mentor
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Ability to understand and implement basic control system design
  • Experience with programmable controllers used in machine control and robotic applications
  • Ability to conduct electrical/electronic design and calculations
  • Ability to prepare technical documents and CAD drawings
  • Valid US driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience in an engineering organization, or other organized group
  • Membership or leadership in IEEE, SWE, ACM, or equivalent professional organization
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Matlab
  • Control Systems Engineering and/or Control Theory experience
Education

Currently enrolled as a Junior attending an accredited college/university earning a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related

Preferred Education

Control Systems Engineering and/or Control Theory coursework

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Additional Information
  • Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
  • Must be fully available for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship in Glendale, CA

The pay rate for this role in Glendale, CA is $31 per hour for undergraduate students and $36 per hour for graduate level students.
