Job summary

The Watershed Restoration Engineer at The Nature Conservancy will work with federal, state, and local agencies to lead watershed restoration projects in the Alleghany Highlands and Lexington, VA area, applying design methods including road-stream crossing assessments and stream restoration.

Responsibilities include technical leadership, project development, contract preparation, and collaboration with scientists and partners to improve aquatic passage and restoration outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in science related field and 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer with 5 years relevant experience strongly preferred.
• Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting statistical or environmental data.
• Experience leading or participating on cross functional teams.
• Experience managing complex projects including the financial aspect and coordinating the work of peers and partners.
• Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and scientific support as a subject matter resource (SMR).
• Support multi-agency watershed restoration in partnership with USFS and others.
• Develop and implement watershed analysis, stream and road-stream crossing assessments.
• Prepare construction drawings and contracts for projects.
• Oversee road-stream crossing restoration for aquatic passage.
• Collaborate with scientists and institutions to enhance practices.
