Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Watershed Restoration Engineer to collaborate with TNC, USFS, and partners on aquatic restoration projects in the Alleghany Highlands region. The role includes project development, design, surveys, construction drawings, and contract administration to restore stream habitats and crossings.

Based in Lexington, VA, the engineer will report 1–2 days weekly from the office and may reside in western Virginia; PE-credential is preferred and strong data analysis,

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a science-related field with 5 years of experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration strongly preferred.
• Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting statistical or environmental data.
• Experience leading or participating on cross-functional teams.
• Experience managing complex projects including the financial aspect and coordinating the work of peers and partners.
• Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
• Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with agencies and partners on watershed restoration projects.
• Lead project development, design, surveys, and construction drawings.
• Administer and evaluate contractor progress and compliance with plans and specifications.
• Provide technical leadership on restoration techniques (e.g., stream restoration, road-stream crossing analysis).
