Position Overview

Water jet operators are responsible for maintaining and operating the water jet. Prospective candidates should have a good mechanical aptitude, experience with CAD/CAM/WARD JET/IKHULU software, welding, and lift truck operation. During the operation of the water jet the path files must be verified with the drawing files prior to the cutting of material. The operator would also need to assist drafters with the production of drawing files as needed to meet production schedules. The operator will also be responsible to perform other tasks as assigned, and must be able to lift 70 lbs.

Responsibilities
  • Operators are to perform routine maintenance checks during the startup process and while operating the water jet to ensure a safe environment for anyone in the vicinity of the water jet.
  • During startup of the machine the operator must make sure that the abrasive hopper is filled with silicon carbide abrasive, the airline supply is bleed down, the air supply valves are turned on, the power to the machine is on, the E-stops are working properly, the coolant level is in operating range, the chiller is on, the Ebbco closed‑loop filtration system is pumping correctly, the Waterveyor is removing abrasive from the tank, see that all gauges are within normal operating range, and check for leaks.
  • At the beginning of every shift tank stirs are to be completed and abrasive is to be removed from the bottom of the sump vessel of the Waterveyor to ensure the consistent removal of abrasive. If the abrasive in the tank has accumulated above the screens then management needs to be notified to schedule the next tank cleaning.
  • Tank cleanings are periodically required, and it is the responsibility of the operators to shovel the tank as needed.
  • Prior to cutting a mold the operator must verify that the material is properly secured to the table, weights are on top of the material being cut, and the shields are in place before operating the machine.
  • Operators must also verify that the drawing packets have assembly drawings, component drawing(s), special instructions, release form, request form, and any other specific information related to the drawing deemed necessary. Operators are to verify the completeness of the packet, and contact management if they have any questions pertaining to the cut prior to cutting.
  • After verifying the packet, the drawing can be loaded from the flash drive onto the water jet using the installed Flow Cut software.
  • The technician will also be responsible for the rebuilding of water jet components such as the intensifier, bleed down valves, cutting heads, or anything else as needed.
