Job summary

Camp Mah-Kee-Nac seeks a Waterfront Director to lead our lake-based waterfront program, directing safety, staffing, equipment, and daily boating operations for campers. The role involves supervision of lifeguards, boating instructors, and watersports staff, with responsibility for motorized boats, inflatable water park, and equipment maintenance.

The ideal candidate has practical watersports instruction experience, strong leadership, and full compliance with MA regulations and ACA standards.

Qualifications

• At least 21 years old by start of camp session with six weeks of management or supervisory experience at a similar aquatics area.
• Experience supervising lake-based swimming and boating programs.
• Practical experience operating motorized boats and delivering waterskiing, wakeboarding, or tubing activities.
• Working knowledge of boat care, daily safety checks, safe fueling, and routine maintenance.
• Current lifeguard certification with waterfront training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid; certifications must remain valid throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce lake and waterfront safety procedures in line with Massachusetts DPH, boating regs, ACA standards, and certification guidelines.
• Coordinate water-safety tests and waterfront orientations for campers and staff.
• Lead regular emergency drills and maintain clear emergency response procedures.
• Train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate lifeguards, boating instructors, and watersports staff.
• Oversee safe operation of motorized boats for waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and fishing; supervise boat operators.
• Coordinate daily boat inspections, fueling, cleaning, equipment storage, and maintenance; report repairs promptly.
• Oversee inflatable water park operations including daily inspections and safety supervision.
• Plan engaging swimming, boating, and watersports sessions; coordinate daily activity rotations.
• Lead pre-season setup and post-season breakdown of docks, buoys, and boathouse; inspect and maintain gear.
