Job summary

LVI Associates in the United States seeks a Marine & Waterfront Engineering Manager to lead delivery of technically challenging coastal projects across New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. You will own projects from concept through construction, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and engaging clients.

The role requires a PE licence, a civil/marine engineering degree, and a minimum of 10 years' experience in marine or waterfront work.

  • Experience managing projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of coastal adaptation, sustainability, and risk mitigation strategies.

Marine & Waterfront Engineering Manager

Drive Complex Coastal Infrastructure Projects Locations: New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Springfield MA, Walpole MA

A well-established engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Marine & Waterfront Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of technically challenging coastal and waterfront projects. This position offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise, project leadership, client engagement, and business development while helping shape resilient infrastructure for both public and private sector clients.

The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from initial concept through construction, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders to deliver innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, permitting, and execution of marine and waterfront engineering projects.
  • Manage the assessment, rehabilitation, and design of coastal and waterfront structures.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technical staff, contractors, and specialist consultants.
  • Oversee project performance, ensuring delivery against schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, design packages, construction documents, specifications, and engineering studies.
  • Develop project scopes, resource plans, staffing forecasts, and fee proposals.
  • Support funding applications, project submissions, and client presentations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, contractors, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in project interviews, public meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Assist with contract administration and commercial negotiations.
  • Contribute to business growth initiatives by identifying opportunities and supporting strategic pursuits.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting the growth of the wider team.
Skills & Experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence required.
  • Degree in Civil, Structural, Coastal, Marine, Geotechnical, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience delivering marine, waterfront, or coastal engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of marine structures, shoreline protection systems, coastal resilience, and waterfront infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, clients, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of coastal adaptation, sustainability, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience producing construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard engineering, modelling, and GIS software.
  • Proven ability to develop proposals, manage client relationships, and support business development activities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent.
  • Additional industry certifications related to marine or waterfront design are advantageous.
