Job description

Engineering: Franklin, Massachusetts; Glastonbury, Connecticut; Wakefield, Massachusetts; Newport, Rhode Island; Bedford, New Hampshire. Salary: USD 100,000.00 - 140,000.00 annually.

GEI’s Ithaca, NY office is seeking a mid‑level Water Resource Engineer/Planner. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will support ongoing field and office‑related efforts on water resource projects such as watershed modeling, stormwater modeling, management and design, coastal/shoreline modeling, hydraulic hazard analyses, dam breach analyses, and other related projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead project tasks with a team of registered civil engineers and flood management professionals.
  • Prepare various water resources planning documents including Groundwater Sustainability Plans, Flood Protection Plans, Implementation Plans, Integrated Regional Water Management Plans, feasibility studies, Drought Contingency Plans, and Emergency Action Plans.
  • Support clients pursuing grant funding opportunities such as USBR Grants and DWR‑based grant programs.
  • Interpret and synthesize complex water resources modeling results.
  • Perform technical analysis related to flood system evaluation, floodplain‑based flood system maintenance and operations, and water supply and demand estimates and projections.
  • Collaborate with structural engineers, surveyors, and other team members to ensure design coherence.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, presentations, and client/regulator documentation.
  • Support Project Managers by tracking budgets, client communications, and deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a water resource related field.
  • More than 6 years of professional experience in water resource engineering/planning.
  • Knowledge of NYSDEC environmental regulations is a plus.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Experience with H&H analysis software such as the USACE HEC software suite; proficiency with CAD and GIS software is a plus.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short‑term assignments as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight year‑round, as required, without restrictions.
