Job summary

The Water Otter Job Board is seeking a Certified Operator to oversee the operation, maintenance, and management of a water and wastewater treatment plant, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

You'll monitor water quality, perform routine tests, enter data into SAMS, conduct preventive maintenance, respond to emergencies, and travel to local plants. This 24/7 role requires safety adherence and the ability to work with a hands-on field team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid Water/Wastewater Operator Certification required.
• Familiarity with industry software and ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and monitor plant equipment and processes.
• Test chemical levels and water quality regularly.
• Ensure regulatory compliance through quality surveillance.
• Record data and generate required reports in SAMS.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including minor electrical/mechanical tasks.
• Respond to emergencies and travel to local plants.
• Work 24/7 shifts and adhere to safety protocols.

Job description

The Certified Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and management of water and wastewater treatment plant. This role ensures the water and wastewater treatment processes comply with environmental regulations and standards. The operator will monitor and control the quality of water and wastewater, conduct routine inspections, and perform necessary maintenance to ensure the plant's smooth operation.

Pay range

Pay range: $25-30/hour

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and monitor equipment and processes to ensure proper operation
• Conduct regular test checks on chemical levels, water quality, and equipment operations
• Monitor water quality throughout the facility to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
• Quality control by performing routine testing of water and wastewater to ensure compliance with regulations
• Compile and enter plant operation and water quality data into SAMS system for use in required reports
• Record and report accurate operational data and performance metrics
• Perform routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance on treatment equipment and systems, including minor electrical and mechanical repairs, SCADA system, and variable frequency drives
• Operate and maintain chemical feed pumps for accurate dosing
• Oversee grounds and building maintenance
• Respond to emergency situations and system failures
• Travel to assigned plants in the local area
• Work various shifts as the treatment plant operates 24/7
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures
• All other duties as assigned

Education/Skills

• High School diploma or GED
• Valid Water/Wastewater Operator Certification
• Valid Driver License
• Familiarity with and the ability to learn industry software

Working Conditions

• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
• Must be able to work in confined spaces
• Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
