Job summary

PCL Construction, Inc. in Long Beach, California is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support the preconstruction phase of a water/wastewater project. The role emphasizes contract management, forecasting and scheduling with opportunities for growth through PCL’s training and mentorship programs.

The ideal candidate brings 4–6 years of construction experience, strong communication skills and the ability to drive project success across complex subcontracting and design coordination efforts.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture.
• 4–6 years of construction experience in an operational role.
• Knowledge of construction equipment, drawings, HSE, quality, and materials.
• Basic engineering/problem solving applied to construction challenges.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Planning and time management with multitasking ability.
• Ability to create and lead schedules at a comprehensive scale.
• Experience formulating and administering subcontracts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internal systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs quantity takeoffs and surveys to manage contract progress, reporting and change management.
• Maintains contracts with complex subcontracted scopes and manages subcontract administration.
• Reviews contract obligations and assists site manager in start-up activities.
• Reviews subcontractors' submittals for scope/design compliance and coordinates with design teams.
• Assists with site inspections by the design team and signs off on commissioning.
• Identifies potential risks on project scopes.
• Other duties as required.
