Job summary

The City of Sunrise is seeking a skilled Operator Trainee to operate and monitor its water and wastewater facilities on an assigned shift. This role requires basic maintenance tasks, data recording, and a readiness to learn through on-the-job training.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid FDEP Class C license or higher, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. The trainee program includes license progression and potential advancement within utility operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; proof of highest education must be submitted with application.
• Reasonable experience in operation of a water and/or wastewater facility.
• Possession of an FDEP Class "C" (or higher) operator’s license in the area of assignment; Water or Wastewater.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment equipment on assigned shift.
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of plant equipment.
• Take routine samples and record operating data; adjust processes as directed.
• Assist in safety and housekeeping to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Assist in supervision of trainee staff and provide guidance as needed.
