Job summary

Loudoun Water in Ashburn, VA seeks a Community Systems Plant Operator Apprentice to assist operating and maintaining water, wastewater, and on-site treatment facilities along with distribution and collection systems.

Key tasks include reading and applying SOPs and permits, inspecting and maintaining equipment, operating valves and pumps, recording data, collecting samples, and performing bench tests. CPR certification is required within six months and on-call work is expected.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Strong math skills or interest in science, biology or chemistry.
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of water, wastewater, and/or water reclamation facilities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water, wastewater, and on-site treatment facilities along with their distribution and collection systems.
• Read, interpret, and follow all facility requirements, permits, and SOPs.
• Conduct inspections, general housekeeping, and preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings, and grounds; identify and remediate issues as needed.
• Operate valves, pumps, gates, and other controls within the facility and distribution system.
• Read meters, gauges, and dials; record readings and maintain logs/databases.
• Collect water and wastewater samples; perform bench testing and calibrate equipment; maintain lab records.
