Job summary

The City of Lakeland is seeking a semi-skilled worker to install and repair water distribution and wastewater systems under supervision. You will lay mains, install meters, and assist with pumping stations while operating heavy equipment and observing safety protocols.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, digging, installing taps, and participating in after-hours standby as needed. A valid driver’s license is required; CDL may be needed within six months. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license; may require Class A CDL within six months.
• Able to pass safety/physical qualification tests.

Responsibilities

• Lay wastewater gravity mains, manholes, force mains, and valves; install air release valves and fittings.
• Repair and install water service lines and meters; perform tie-ins and connections.
• Assist in constructing and upgrading wastewater pumping stations.
• Operate heavy equipment (air compressor, jackhammer, torch, dump truck, backhoe).
• Perform routine maintenance on tools, materials, and equipment.
• Work overtime or standby as needed; participate in on-call program.
