Job summary

City of Palm Bay seeks a Utilities Technician to install, repair and inspect water and sewer lines and related fixtures under supervision. You will assist with mains, hydrants, meters and valves, and support contractors and other city departments.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida license, basic manual labor experience, and ability to read simple blueprints. On-the-job training and certifications may be pursued within the role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; coursework in water/wastewater technologies preferred.
• Some experience in general construction or manual labor preferred.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
• Hands-on experience with water distribution and/or wastewater systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Locate, repair, install and maintain water and sewer mains and related appurtenances.
• Prepare work areas and secure job sites with traffic control.
• Restores easements and right of way; maintains sidewalks and landscaping as needed.
• Issue public notices for boil water advisories or planned service interruptions.
• Operate equipment within assigned skillset and perform preventive maintenance.
• Collect water and/or wastewater samples for analyses.
• Maintain logs/records and process work orders or reports.
• Access computer systems for customer information, locates, permits and inspections.
• Participate in Health & Safety program and on-call rotations.
