Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District seeks a Water/Wastewater Operator to operate and maintain drinking water and wastewater systems at the Atwood Lake area, including sampling and equipment upkeep.

General Description

Maintains, repairs and operates, when necessary, drinking water supply systems and wastewater treatment systems. Collects samples from water treatment systems, water wells, and wastewater treatment systems and transports them for testing.

Job Description and Worker Characteristics
Job Duties in Order of Importance
  • 60% (1) Operates and maintains water and wastewater treatment systems and related equipment such as lift stations; operates and maintains distribution and collection systems; collects and monitors water samples from water wells, surface water treatment plants, wastewater treatment systems and other sources as required by law and MWCD rules and regulations; assists in the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment for water and wastewater systems, and repair of lift stations; may operate drinking water and wastewater treatment systems as needed; ensures all work is completed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state and federal codes and guidelines, follows applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • 20% (2) Performs daily site visits, plant logs and bench sheets.
  • 15% (3) Repairs and installs pumps, motors or other equipment as needed; repairs sewage force mains; tests and prepares backflow prevention devices; troubleshoots lift station panels.
  • Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • 5% (4) Performs other related duties as assigned; attends meetings, as directed; attends training and seminars, as directed.

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics

Qualifications

Completion of high school (12th grade) or possession of a GED certificate and two (2) or more years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

Must possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Ohio and must be insurable by MWCD fleet insurance. Possession of OEPA Class I water and wastewater licenses are required for the Utilities Technician position. The Utilities Technician in Training role requires someone that is either currently in the process of obtaining their OEPA Class I water or wastewater license or someone with relevant experience who is willing to obtain an OEPA Class I water and wastewater license. The license must be obtained within a time frame determined prior to hire and pursuant to an MWCD Utilities Technician in Training Employment Agreement.
