Job summary

Hanover County Government is seeking a Utility Operator to manage operations at one of the county's water facilities, wastewater plant, or water distribution system. The role progresses through four levels (Operator-in-Training, Apprentice, Journeyman, Master) and requires obtaining a Class II license within 5.5 years.

Incumbents report to the Utility Superintendent, supervise no staff, and may lead with Master level during absences.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must achieve Class IV to Class I license depending on CD level.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License.
• Water or Wastewater License issued by the State of Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Conducts laboratory analysis.
• Monitors plant or system processes and makes adjustments as necessary.
• Maintains operational and maintenance records.
• Assists with regulatory reporting.
• Collects samples for analysis.
• Keeps plant and work environment clean.
• Assists maintenance personnel as needed.
• Master Operators will function in a lead position and will assist the Superintendent with administrative functions and projects.
