Job summary

New Mexico Rural Water Association is seeking a Certified Grade 2/3 Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator based in Dulce, New Mexico. The role includes operational duties at the treatment plant and conducting necessary laboratory analyses. Financial benefits include a salary range of $50k-$65k depending on certification, along with travel accommodations and group insurance. This position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, as well as excellent communication abilities. Remote work is not applicable for this role as it requires on-site presence.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of Grade 2 in Water/Wastewater disciplines.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants is required.
  • Must be flexible and dedicated to public services.

  • Support plant maintenance and operation.

Job description

Position

Certified Grade 2/3 Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Location: Dulce, New Mexico

Work schedule: 12 hour days, 2 weeks on/2 weeks off shift-work (includes potential night shift-work) at local Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Flights/travel and accommodations paid. Full year of pay, with only working less than half the year.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Consistently offering professional, engaging and friendly service
  • Ensures all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Supporting staff with the maintenance and operation of the treatment plants according to related Government standards
  • Conducting laboratory analyses and associated process adjustments
  • Maintenance and operation of the filtering and chemical treatment process
  • Maintain all related readings and documentation
  • Keeping a daily log and documenting of analytical parameters
  • Creation and completion of work orders for servicing and repairs
  • Supporting operations staff with vacation relief
  • Supporting with the purchase of goods and equipment, and maintain inventory
  • Supporting with data entry and reports to government agencies, departments, and other organizations as required
  • Conducts water level measurements and interprets data
  • Loads and unloads chemical and supplies
  • Performs calculations related to dosing, flow rates, and other weights and measures
  • Compliance with all safety and sanitation policies
  • Facilities maintenance including landscaping and vegetation control
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other personnel and supervisors
  • Support with the clients, vendors and engineers
  • Shared on-call for emergency response
  • Training/support of other staff or on-site personnel
Skills & Attributes Desired
  • A minimum of Grade 2 in Water/Wastewater disciplines is required
  • Experience operating and maintaining Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and related equipment is required
  • Must be flexible and demonstrate a dedication to the position and to the public services
  • Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must be able to perform on-call services on a rotational schedule
  • Excellent and professional oral and written communication skills
Physical Aspects of Position
  • Walking/standing/bending/reaching/pushing/pulling: Potential of 6-10 hr/day
  • Computer work: Potential of 1-4 hours/day
  • Physical Effort: does not lift weights more than 50 lbs
  • Environmental Stress: busy atmosphere, working inside and outside
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in sometimes harsh weather conditions
