Job summary

HDR’s Water/Wastewater Internship offers hands-on experience on projects shaping community water systems. You’ll perform design calculations for pump stations, treatment, and water distribution while engaging with mentors and young professionals.

You will gain exposure to site visits, technical writing, and construction activities under the guidance of engineers or a Project Manager. This paid internship supports HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Good communication abilities and basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
• Active participant in HDR employee-owned culture is required.

Responsibilities

• Gain real-world experience on water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Perform calculations for pump stations, treatment, distribution, and conveyance.
• Engage with mentors and participate in young professionals programs.
• Practice technical writing on real world projects.
• Attend site visits and gain exposure to construction activities.
• Learn standard engineering techniques related to water infrastructure.
• Work under supervision of a professional or Project Manager.

In the role of Water/Wastewater Intern, we’ll count on you to:

• Gain real-world experience on exciting projects related to water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Perform calculations for various projects such as pump stations, water/wastewater treatment, water distribution, and wastewater conveyance design.
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
• Practice technical writing for real world projects.
• Attend site visits and gain exposure to construction projects.
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures related to water and wastewater infrastructure planning.
• Learn about engineering consulting under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager.
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0 GPA. Demonstrated knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, Excel, Civil 3D, or others related to field of study/industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
• Attention to detail
• Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
