Job summary

City of Montrose is hiring a heavy laborer for water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance. You will operate major equipment (loader, backhoe, sewer rodders, sewer jet), excavate and repair water and sewer lines, and assist with meter work and line locating.

The role requires reading maps/blueprints, following safety protocols, and participating in on-call rotations. Non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in maintenance/public works operations or construction.
• Knowledge of water distribution & sanitary sewer systems.
• Ability to read maps and blueprints.
• Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to water systems and wastewater.
• Non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays.

Responsibilities

• Perform heavy labor and operate loaders, backhoes, sewer rodders, sewer jet and related equipment.
• Install, maintain and repair water mains, laterals, valves, meters, hydrants; locate water lines.
• Excavate, install and repair wastewater mains and laterals; tap sanitary sewer services.
• Operate and maintain sewer collection equipment (Vactor, camera truck); analyze data and generate reports.
• Record data using computer/log books; maintain maintenance records.
• Assist in training and support, participate in on-call rotation and after-hours emergencies.
• Adhere to safety protocols and wear PPE; report unsafe conditions.
• Assist other City Departments as needed.
