Job summary

Hazen & Sawyer in the Ashburn, VA area seeks a Construction Inspector or Assistant Engineer to support water and wastewater facility construction. You will observe site activities, document findings, and coordinate with the project team to ensure contract compliance.

The role requires knowledge of civil/structural/mechanical/electrical construction methods, strong communication, and travel within the area. ProCORE and MS Project experience is preferred; benefits include health plans, 401(k),

Qualifications

• Curious and committed continuous learner with positive attitude.
• Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering work.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willing to travel to projects in the area as needed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and related PC software packages used on construction projects.
• Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpretation of project specifications and drawings
• Providing Document Control
• Assisting in the processing and review of RFI’s, Submittals and Shop Drawings prepared by Contractor
• Maintain Change Order log
• Assist in preparing weekly project meeting agendas and documenting meetings
• Coordinating and facilitating communication between the contractor, Design Engineer, various project stakeholders, and the owner
• Performing field inspection of Contractor’s daily operations for compliance with Contract Documents
• Preparing sketches and assembling data for the Design Engineers use
• Preparing daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by the contractor
• Use of cloud-based software or project documentation such as PROCORE
• Other Construction management activities as needed
