Job summary

HDR is seeking motivated Water/Wastewater Interns to join our team in 2027. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting engineers and project managers on infrastructure projects that help shape our communities.

Depending on interests, you may contribute to water, wastewater, civil site, water resources, and geotechnical/tunneling areas. Preferred qualifications include current Civil Engineering student, familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, MATLAB, Python, and strong teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning, design, and delivery of water, wastewater, and site development projects.
• Support the preparation of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction-phase support activities, including submittal and RFI reviews.
• Support projects involving flood risk reduction, dams, levees, stormwater systems, wetlands, and river restoration.
• Assist with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, data analysis, and water resources studies.
• Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and presentations.
• Assist with geotechnical and tunneling analyses and design for tunnels, underground structures, excavations, and foundations.
• Support subsurface investigations, fieldwork, geotechnical reporting, and engineering evaluations.
• Contribute to numerical modeling, design calculations, technical documentation, and construction observation activities.
• Gain exposure to a variety of tunneling methods, ground support systems, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
