Your Opportunity

Stantec's Water practice in Walnut Creek, California is seeking a highly motivated Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our successful team working on iconic projects as a Project Technical Lead (PTL). In this role, the PTL is accountable for work production and coordinating all multi-disciplinary activities to ensure integrated technical solutions and high-quality outputs. Responsibilities include project delivery, design management, and overseeing water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects. This position offers an opportunity for significant career growth, leadership development, and recognition within the California water practice.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a key member of the Pacific Water Business Line, your duties will include:

  1. Promoting Stantec’s project delivery structure involving Project Managers and Project Technical Leads.
  2. Providing technical guidance and leadership in innovative solutions for water and wastewater projects.
  3. Managing conventional and alternative delivery of treatment and conveyance projects.
  4. Coordinating with project teams across disciplines.
  5. Developing reports, studies, specifications, calculations, detailed drawings, and other technical deliverables.
  6. Communicating effectively with clients during all project phases.
  7. Supporting research and innovation through conference participation and academic partnerships.
  8. Mentoring young professionals in California offices.
  9. Collaborating with leadership, pursuit teams, and project managers across locations.
  10. Understanding and proactively addressing client needs and expectations.
  11. Ensuring efficient project planning and execution.
  12. Working inclusively with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  13. Connecting clients, project managers, reviewers, and teams to technical solutions.
  14. Supporting personnel with PTL aspirations.
  15. Proactively managing intellectual property.
  16. Adhering to safety procedures and protocols.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  1. Experience in organizing, planning, and executing water and wastewater projects from pursuit to construction.
  2. Leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and working with contractors and vendors.
  3. Strong client service, project management, and design skills.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Passion for team building, collaboration, and mentoring.
  6. Technical expertise in at least one specialized area.
  7. Efficient leadership of multiple projects.
  8. Ability to meet client expectations on budget and quality.
  9. Experience in market development and proposal writing.
  10. Ability to develop project effort estimates.
  11. Valid California PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
Education and Experience
  • B.S. in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering; M.S. preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years in water/wastewater treatment or conveyance.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid California PE license or equivalent with ability to obtain California license within 1 year.
