Job summary

Southwest Florida Water Management District is offering a student internship in the Water Use Permit (WUP) Compliance section in Tampa, FL. This on-site role provides hands-on experience with the permitting process and opportunities to work with senior staff on impactful projects related to water resource management.

Responsibilities include assisting with overpumpage and ownership transfers within WUP, visiting sites with senior team members, and performing other projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university or recognized program.
• Maintain minimum GPA: 2.5 for undergrad; 3.0 for graduate students.
• High school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license required.

Help protect one of Florida’s most vital resources — water —with a career at theSouthwest Florida Water Management District (District).

The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources, minimize flood risks, and ensure the public’s water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law.

Gain valuable hands-on experience by assisting our Water Use Permit (WUP) Compliance section. You will have the opportunity to work as an active team member on both sides of the permitting process and will also work with our Senior Staff to complete important projects.

This internship opportunity is not eligible for remote work, all work will be conducted at the Tampa, FL office.

Compensation: $16 hourly

Essential Functions

• Work with overpumpage in the Compliance section
• Work with ownership transfers in the Water Use Permit section
• Handle other projects as needed
• Visit sites with senior team members

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Must be able to operate a District vehicle with attached equipment for two hours or more at a time. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity, as well as a variety of pests, including mosquitoes and ticks.Work environments vary by assigned business unit.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Credentials for Water Use Permit Student Intern

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
• Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Credentials for Water Use Permit Student Intern

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
• Preferred Degrees:Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
• Preferred Degree Level:Undergraduate or Graduate

The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, out of the Tampa, FL office.Student Internshippositions are not eligible for insured medical benefits.
