Job summary

City of Evanston operates a water treatment facility and seeks a skilled operator to ensure EPA-quality water by running pumps, filters, and chemical dosing. You will monitor SCADA and control panels, test water samples, and maintain detailed records of chemistry and flows.

Rotating shifts and safety gear are required. Candidates must pursue operator certifications within specified timeframes and respond to emergencies following established plans.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain Class C certification within 24 months of hire.
• Must obtain Class A certification within 48 months of hire.
• Must pass annual respiratory surveillance examination.
• Knowledge of water plant operation and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance via SCADA, adjust flows and chemical dosages.
• Operate pumps, valves and control panels to maintain water levels.
• Perform lab tests and adjust treatment dosages based on results.
• Maintain records of readings, chemical use and inventory.
• Respond to emergencies and follow contingency plans.
