Job summary

Aqua Illinois is seeking a Water Treatment Technician at the Kankakee plant to operate and maintain the water treatment facilities and related equipment. The role requires handling pumping systems, chemical feeds, and testing to ensure safe, compliant water for the community, with shift work and potential overtime.

Responsibilities include recording data, performing maintenance, and assisting with emergency repairs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; mechanical/instrumentation tech preferred.
• Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
• Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data manipulation.
• Must obtain Class A Public Water Supply Operator license within six months of employment.
• One-year experience at a water utility preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication; ability to prepare technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water treatment plant facilities and equipment.
• Operate valves and electrical switchgear.
• Perform inspections, tests, and data recording.
• Backwash intakes and manage intake changes.
• Monitor inventory and order bulk chemicals.
• Prepare reports for EPA/ICC and other entities.
• Conduct water quality testing and sample collection.
• Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.
• Overtime and emergency call-out as needed.
