Taurus Industrial Group, LLC is seeking a Plant Water Technician to maintain the safe operation of plant process water, potable water, and wastewater systems at our Colorado facility. This role requires night, weekend, and holiday work for projects, testing, or outages and may fill in for the plant chemistry supervisor as needed.

Job description

The Plant Water Technician maintains the safe and effective operation of all plant process water, potable water, and wastewater systems in support of the energy station. This role is required to work nights, weekends, and holidays for projects, testing, or unit outages as needed; and may fill in for the plant chemistry supervisor as needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
  • Operates plant potable water, demineralized water, sanitary wastewater, and phosphorous removal treatment systems to comply with federal, state and local regulations
  • Identifies and troubleshoots plant potable water, demineralized water, sanitary wastewater, and phosphorous removal treatment system operational issues
  • Identifies areas of improvement within water treatment systems, and power plant cycle chemistry, and suggests equipment upgrades.
  • Monitors all water treatment systems, power plant cycle chemistry, dam integrity and lake water quality
  • Receives chemical deliveries. This includes oversight of tanker deliveries and offloading of tote/pallet deliveries with a forklift.
  • Collects and analyzes process samples including multiple water sources, ash, lime, coal, oil, and coolants
  • Calibrates and maintains online analytical instrumentation
  • Collaborates with power operations staff to adhere to cycle chemistry-based load changes, and cycle chemistry based operational adjustments
  • Practices safety awareness and complies with safety standards set forth by the organization
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Knowledge of basic safety principles and policies for an industrial work setting
  • Ability to effectively identify or analyze operational problems using troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to take or direct necessary steps to maintain safe and reliable system operation
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Advanced knowledge of water treatment system operation
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and collaborate with a diverse staff
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations typical of water operations including volume, flow rate, and unit conversions
  • Basic knowledge of boiler cycle chemistry, laboratory analyses and on-line instrumentation
  • Basic computer skills and general knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy
  • Current Colorado class C drinking water license or ability to obtain within three years
  • Current Colorado class D wastewater license or ability to obtain within one year
  • Current Colorado class 1 water distribution license or ability to obtain within one year
  • Ability to achieve and maintain forklift and overhead crane operator certification
Preferred qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, water treatment, or related field
  • Current State of Colorado Class B drinking water license
