Job summary

OWASA seeks a Treatment Plant Operator for the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro, NC. Ideal candidates are team players with a strong work ethic and adaptability, capable of supporting daily plant operations and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include monitoring processes, collecting samples, inspecting the plant, and troubleshooting equipment while assisting with chemical deliveries. Weekend, holiday, night, and rotating shifts are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus one year of experience in a water treatment facility or transferable skills.
• NC Class C Surface Water Operator’s Certification; active or ability to acquire within 6 months.
• Valid NC Driver’s License.
• Good working knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, and bacteriology.
• Safety-sensitive position requirements including respirator use and HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of operation and maintenance principles for the water treatment plant.
• Monitor processes to ensure regulatory compliance and proper plant balance, adjusting chemical feeds as needed.
• Complete plant inspections, collect samples, and troubleshoot equipment and processes.
• Assist with offloading bulk chemical deliveries.
• Operate SCADA, forklift, lab equipment, and general office equipment.
• Work weekends, holidays, nights, and rotating shifts.
