Job summary

The Town of Surf City seeks a Water Treatment Plant Operator to manage water and sewer system operations in a 40-hour-per-week role. The job involves maintenance, meter readings, calibration, and on-call duties across weekends and nights.

You will work with the Collections and Distribution Supervisor, monitor SCADA, perform routine lab tests, and ensure compliance with safety standards and town regulations. Requires NC licenses and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid NC Driver’s License required.
• Class A CDL within 2 years.
• Class C-Well NC Water Plant Operator within 1 year.
• Class B-Well NC Water Plant Operator within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Inspect meters and MTU for tampering, leaks, or faults and report issues.
• Post notices, shut off/on water services, and schedule re-checks.
• Perform routine meter maintenance, calibration, and field repairs.
• Locate meters and lines; assist in emergency repairs as needed.
• Operate SCADA to monitor water supply and wastewater pump stations.
• Respond to after-hours calls and maintain accurate records.
