Job summary

Johnston County Public Utilities Department is hiring a Water Plant Operator for a 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM shift. The role involves operating water treatment processes, monitoring SCADA, performing lab tests, and maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, specialized water treatment training, and a NC C-Surface Water Treatment certificate or be able to obtain within 12 months. A valid NC driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Specialized training in water treatment and plant operations.
• Possession of C-Surface Water Treatment certificate by NC or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Valid NC driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operates all equipment to regulate water flow and treatment processes, including ozone disinfection and residuals management.
• Computes chemical dosages and adjusts chemical feeders.
• Monitors and controls water supply and storage systems via SCADA; analyzes and acts on results.
• Performs laboratory tests to assess plant performance and compliance with water quality standards.
• Maintains logs and generates reports; conducts periodic inspections and prepares documentation.
• Performs routine maintenance and participates in major plant repairs and safety training.
