Job summary

The City of Dania Beach is seeking a Water Plant Operator to join our Public Services Team. The role involves operating and maintaining a water treatment plant, with independent judgment in routine issues on a 3rd shift (Saturday to Wednesday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM).

Required are a High School Diploma or GED, a Class B water treatment certification from Florida, and at least three years of water plant experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum three (3) years of water plant experience or equivalent substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Class B certification in water treatment as issued by the State of Florida.
• Valid Driver’s license with a good driving record; out-of-state licensees must obtain Florida license within 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to work 3rd Shift: Saturday to Wednesday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM.

Responsibilities

• Monitors meters, dials, and gauges and records data.
• Operates pumps, valves, and gates to transfer water between units.
• Cleans, paints, and maintains pumps, motors, tanks, and plant equipment.
• Performs basic water plant operational control tests and records results.
• Installs and removes chlorine containers safely.
• Inspects odor control chemical feed equipment for proper operation.
• Collects water samples for testing.
• Adjusts plant process within established policy.
• Performs custodial duties on plant grounds and buildings.
• Supervises operator-trainees and C-level operators on shift.

Work Schedule is 3rd Shift Saturday to Wednesday 11:00pm to 7:00am.

• Monitors meters, dials, and gauges and records data on reports or into computer as required.
• Operates pumps, valves, and gates to transfer water from one treatment unit to another.
• Cleans, paints, and performs other service to pumps, motors, tanks, and other plant equipment as necessary.
• Performs basic water plant operational control tests and records results.
• Installs and removes chlorine containers in a safe manner.
• Inspects odor control chemical feed equipment for proper operation.
• Picks up water samples for testing.
• Adjusts plant process within established policy.
• Performs custodial duties on plant grounds and buildings.
• Supervises operator-trainees and "C" level operators on shift.
• Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

What's required: (Minimum Requirements)

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum three (3) years of water plant experience. Equivalent experience can substitute for education on a year-by-year basis
• Class “B” certification in water treatment as issued by the State of Florida
• Possession of a valid Driver’s license with overall good driving record required. If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire date
• Must be able to work 3rd Shift Saturday to Wednesday 11:00pm to 7:00am.
