Job summary

The City of Yuma's Water Treatment Division seeks an Water Treatment Plant Operator Apprentice to begin training under experienced operators. This entry-level apprenticeship program aims to prepare you to become a Water Treatment Plant Operator II upon completion.

Under supervision you will learn to operate and maintain plant equipment, assist with chemical protocols, sample analysis, and safety procedures while rotating shifts and meeting ADEQ certification timelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; laborer or customer service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of city policies, wastewater treatment equipment, and regulations.
• Must meet ADEQ Grade 2 certification within two years of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate and maintain plant equipment on an assigned shift under supervision.
• Assist with inspection and maintenance of equipment per standards.
• Assist with basic water treatment chemical protocols and safety procedures.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Sample and analyze influents/effluents to detect quality variations.
• Observe operating conditions, interpret readings, and report anomalies to supervisor.
• Maintain clean work areas and assist with public interactions per city policy.
• Work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
