Job summary

The City of Yuma seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III to oversee the operation and maintenance of the city’s wastewater treatment plant within the Utilities Department.

The ideal candidate will monitor plant performance, supervise apprentices and junior operators, ensure compliance with ADEQ regulations, and respond to incidents with safety and efficiency. A valid AZ Grade III certificate and driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required with at least 3 years of experience in advanced wastewater facilities.
• Must possess Grade 3 operator certification in Wastewater Treatment or equivalent via reciprocity within 60 days of hire.
• Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation of plant equipment and processes during assigned shifts.
• Monitor SCADA data and make adjustments to maintain plant performance and compliance.
• Supervise Apprentice and I/II classifications while coordinating day-to-day tasks.
• Respond to operational incidents and coordinate with supervisors and state regulators as needed.
• Record operational data and maintain logs in a timely and accurate manner.
