Job summary

Illinois Department of Corrections seeks a candidate to operate and maintain wells, pumps, and related water-treatment equipment, ensuring daily tests and accurate records for state health agencies. The role also serves as a back-up Sewage Plant Operator and maintains compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

The position requires EPA and Illinois EPA licenses, several years of water-treatment experience, and the ability to work within a structured state agency.

Qualifications

Requires completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent.
Requires three (3) years of experience in water treatment plant operation.
Requires EPA Class “B” Water Supply Operator Certificate.
Requires Illinois EPA Class 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License.

Responsibilities

Operates, inspects, and maintains wells, pumps, motors, and lab equipment.
Performs daily testing of water levels, softeners, and iron filter.
Prepares weekly samples and analyzes chemicals, minerals, and bacteria for health agencies.
Maintains daily records on potable water and salt usage; back-up Sewage Plant Operator duties.
Ensures compliance with all regulations and department policies.
Performs additional duties within the scope of the job as needed.
