Job summary

City of Statesville is seeking a Water Control Operator (Trainee) for its Water Treatment Plant. This role supports certified operators while learning all aspects of plant operation and maintenance, with a clear progression into a Certified Shift Operator position.

Hours are Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM for new hires, with rotating shifts after training. A High School diploma or GED is required, and NC driver’s license is needed.

Qualifications

• Understanding of water treatment plant operation and maintenance.
• Ability to monitor unit processes and adjust treatment parameters.
• Experience with basic physical and chemical analysis of water quality.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the water treatment facility under supervision of a certified operator.
• Participate in on‑the‑job tasks and training to learn proper treatment techniques.
• Make adjustments to ensure compliance with regulations and SOPs.
• Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Collect samples, take readings, and maintain accurate records.
• Conduct routine water quality tests and record results.
• Follow safety procedures and report issues to Lead Operator.
• Assist with grounds and building maintenance as needed.
