Job summary

Collier County is seeking an entry-level Plant Operator Trainee for our water and wastewater facilities. You will receive structured training under licensed operators and work to learn operation, monitoring, maintenance, sampling, and regulatory compliance.

Under supervision, you will operate and monitor processes via SCADA, perform routine tests, collect samples, maintain records, and assist with safety and preventive maintenance to support a safe, compliant plant operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of related experience preferred.
• Fingerprinting required.
• Valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsement(s) may be required.
• Must obtain and maintain an FDEP Class C Drinking Water or Wastewater license within two years.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and perform routine tasks in water/wastewater facilities under supervision.
• Learn to operate pumps, valves, SCADA systems, and related treatment equipment.
• Monitor treatment processes and adjust as authorized by licensed staff.
• Collect samples and perform routine lab and process-control tests; record results.
• Maintain accurate operational records and assist with regulatory reporting.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and general facility housekeeping and safety.
