Job summary

Town of Surf City is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I to operate and maintain the town's WWTP and spray irrigation fields under state permit requirements. The role requires technical skill and the ability to work with a team or independently.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, heavy machinery operation, lawn care and landscaping preferred.
• Experience in wastewater treatment or related field preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license required; NC CDL Class B preferred (within 1 year of hire).

Responsibilities

• Assist operators in operation and maintenance of the WWTP and spray irrigation fields.
• Perform building and grounds maintenance.
• Operate tractors, mowers, bush hogs, chainsaws, and other grounds equipment.
• Monitor reactor set points to maximize treatment.
• Be on call on a rotating schedule; work irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
