Job summary

City of Apple Valley invites applications for a Water Plant Operator. The role supports the Public Works Utilities Water Treatment operations, including wells, treatment plant, and distribution monitoring.

On-call and weekend shifts may be required and you must comply with safety and DOT requirements. The position demands a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid Minnesota driver’s license (CDL Class B within 12 months), and basic SCADA/Microsoft Office skills; prior water operations

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license and excellent driving record.
• Possess or be able to obtain and maintain Minnesota Class B commercial driver’s license within 12 months of appointment.
• Mechanical ability including demonstrated knowledge of routine care and maintenance of equipment.
• Demonstrated computer skills including SCADA software and Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to comply with Department of Transportation drug testing requirements.
• Class C Water Supply Systems Operator certification or must obtain within twelve months after appointment.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains the water treatment plant and related systems.
• Performs lab testing, equipment operation, maintenance and repairs.
• Assists with meter installation, testing, and readings.
• Locates City utilities and maintains distribution infrastructure.
• Responds to emergencies and supports on-call duties.
