Job summary

Alabama Power is seeking a Chemical Technician to supervise water treatment operations and maintain stringent water chemistry in steam and cooling cycles. The role requires a B.S. in Chemistry and hands-on lab equipment experience, with preference for prior water-treatment background.

The candidate will review analyses, perform calibrations, and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations while supporting plant systems and data analysis tools such as Maximo.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a minimum of 12 semester hours or 25 quarter hours of Chemistry required
• Experience in operation, calibration, and maintenance of lab equipment required
• Previous experience in water treatment plant and water/ steam cycle operation preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to individuals operating the water treatment plant, consisting of ultrafiltration, demineralization process and mixed resin beds for the production of demineralized water.
• Ensure proper water chemistry limits in the water/steam cycle system by reviewing analytical results and taking corrective actions.
• Evaluate problems and write necessary condition reports to maintain and improve the water treatment plant and water chemistry system equipment.
• Assist in monitoring plant environmental, safety and health regulations to assure compliance.
